On January 23, 2008, Michigan Catholic Conference conducted a press conference at the State Capitol in an effort to draw attention to the positive effect the state's Earned Income Tax Credit will have on Michigan's working poor population and the state economy.
In an effort to communicate the relationship between stem cell research and the Church's teaching on human life, this 12 minute DVD was distributed to every registered Catholic home in Michigan in October 2007. The video explains the differences between adult and embryonic stem cell research, and features patient testimonials and interviews with adult stem cell researchers.
On June 29, 2007 a ceremony was held at the Conference to honor the life and legacy of Mrs. Helen M. Casey, the first woman appointed to the Michigan Catholic Conference Board of Directors. The ceremony included reflections from family members and former colleagues, as well as an overview of the artist Alvar's "Concert of the Hours" suite that was dedicated in Mrs. Casey's honor.
Catholic Charities USA recently launched a campaign to cut in half the number of Americans living in poverty by the year 2020. The organization is calling on the nation's leaders to fund and support programs that provide necessary health care, housing, nutrition and economic security to low-income families, children, the elderly and disabled.
On April 6, 2006, One United Michigan formally announced its opposition to a ballot question intended to eliminate affirmative action in Michigan. On October 28, 2005 the Michigan Political History Society met to honor the 40th Anniversary of the Michigan Catholic Conference by celebrating "A Vision, A Voice, A Presence: The History of the First Forty Years of the Michigan Catholic Conference," the recently published history book of the MCC.
Members of the MCC Board of Directors, staff and invited guests were in attendance December 1, 2004 for the unveiling of a sculpture sur bois wood carving of the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching.

The future of Catholic education was addressed November 20, 2003 as some 60 diocesan education representatives participated in a day long Symposium conducted by the Michigan Catholic Conference.
